Gladys Swan
Gladys Swan taught for many years at the University of Missouri and Vermont College and has traveled extensively to places that have been settings for her stories and paintings. She is the author of numerous books including On the Edge of the Desert, (1979, 1980); Of Memory and Desire: Stories, (1989); Do You Believe in Cabeza de Vaca? (1991 ); Carnival for the Gods, (1986); Ghost Dance: A Play of Voices, (1992); A Visit to Strangers, (1996); News from the Volcano, (2000, nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award, National Book Critics' Circle Award, and American Book Award); and A Garden Amid Fires, (2007).
