Iztok Osojnik
The Moharreri Visiting International Poet
Iztok Osojnik, poet, fiction writer, essayist, translator, artist, and festival organizer, has published over twenty collections of poetry including Once upon a time there was America, From the New World, Mister Today, Poems of Nothingness and Selected Poems (edited by Richard Jackson), four novels (including Dark Matter), and essays on literature, anthropology, and philosophy. He co-edited two book presentations of Slovene literature: Slovenia, a Nation of Writers and Unlocking the Aquarium, Contemporary Writing from Slovenia. He has translated poetry from Chinese, English, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Croatian, and has himself been translated into twenty languages. He has won several major poetry awards in Slovenia and Italy and has been a fellow of Cambridge Seminar on Contemporary English Writers and the Goethe Institut in Berlin. An editor of several international journals, he has also been Director of the International literary festival Vilenica, one of the major European literary festivals. He co-founded Equrna gallery in Ljubljana and two other well established literary festivals in Slovenia.
