Laurie Perry Vaughen
Laurie Perry Vaughen’s poems have appeared in Kalliope: A Journal of Women’s Art, Lullwater Review, Greensboro Review, Chattahoochee Review, Cold Mountain Review, Carolina Quarterly, Birmingham Poetry Review, and other journals. She has been the recipient of the James Dickey Award for Poetry (1994) at Emory University and the Amon Liner Award from UNC Greensboro. She holds a BS in sociology and anthropology from UTC and will graduate in Dec. with an MA in creative writing, also from UTC. An environmentalist and native of Chattanooga, she will read poems that explore the Tennessee Valley Watershed at the June conference of the American Society of Literature and the Environment at Indiana University. She has shared a podium with poet-farmer Wendell Berry at a farm dedication ceremony (2009) and has led writing workshops and held readings on creativity and spirituality at the Norman Vincent Peale Center at Syracuse University (2010). Laurie’s career path has included journalism and corporate communications, and she currently works at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee in the IT division as a senior technical writer.
